I am delighted that my film Zuneigung (Affection) – a portrait of filmmaker Gisela Tuchtenhagen – will be shown at the Frankfurt Women's Film Days Remake on 4 December 2025 at 1 p.m. at the Pupille Cinema at Frankfurt University as part of a Gisela Tuchtenhagen retrospective. Gisela Tuchtenhagen, Margot Neubert-Mariç (editor of the film) and I will be there for a discussion after the film.
"Affection instead of destruction: Like Wildenhahn, Gisela Tuchtenhagen approaches documentary filmmaking as a communicative act that treats her counterpart as a partner rather than an object. It is a moral stance that has aesthetic consequences. Respect for others requires that dramaturgy, perspective and lighting be subordinate to the people in front of the camera. Thus, the (...) title term ‘affection’ is filled with concrete content and describes a working attitude that can be clearly observed in Stoehr's film in Tuchtenhagen's moving camera work (...). The close connection between life and work is a leitmotif of the intimate and discreet portrait by director Quinka Stoehr, who is connected to her protagonist not only through several joint film projects, but also through a similar working method."
